Gay Life – The Paulinator: Boy Crazy or Crazy Boys

I think if you ask any of my friends they would admit I can, at times, be a bit boy crazy. If you are a frequent reader of this particular column, you can probably draw the same conclusion. Yes, I admit, I can be boy crazy, but I must say I think it has to do with the fact that most boys are simply crazy! Can I get an Amen?

Let’s take for instance the most recent crazy boy to enter my life. It all started one Saturday evening in early January on my way back from Williamsburg.   I hopped on the L train and made my way to Union Square, transferring to an N and heading home to Astoria. While I was walking on the platform at 14th street, I spotted out of the corner of my eye a handsome fella also waiting for the same train. Read more »

Gay Life – The Paulinator: Bee Still My Heart

Having moved to New York City nearly 10 years ago I remember thinking people were crazy when they would call NYC a small town. Having grown up in an actual small town in New England, I think I would know the difference. As the years passed and my circle of friends, acquaintances and one -night-stands expanded so did my understanding of New York’s small town appeal. Recently I was getting on the N train and a friend of mine was getting off, we hadn’t seen each other in months, so I let the train go and we caught up for a bit on the subway platform. Walking down West 20th street to Boxers I ran into a former teacher from college. And just the other day I asked my future husband’s ex-boyfriend out on a date. Wait, did you know I had a future husband? Let’s back up shall we…

Gay Life – The Paulinator: Goodbye Shouldbee…

I was wrapping up my trip to Salt Lake City when I received a text message from Shouldbee. He wished to set up a date upon my return to the Big Apple, which seemed fine. A few days away gave me a clear perspective that I think going forward, we’d probably make better friends. Honestly though, I didn’t want to tell him this in a text message, so I told him to give me a day and let me check my schedule to see when lunch would work best.

I arrived back to New York on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon I received a text asking if I had a better idea of what my schedule looked like. I suggested Friday lunch, but didn’t know where yet, but we agreed that 3pm worked best for both of us. Then, in a 24 hour period the following happened… Read more »

Gay Life – The Paulinator – The Honeybee’s Salt Lake City Adventure

Trapp!

Trapp!

When last we spoke, I was just saying goodbye to ShouldBee and heading off on yet another work related trip to Salt Lake City, Utah… or as I now affectionately refer to it as SL,UT. I had my reservations about heading to the land of the Brigham Young being an out gay male, but as I soon discovered it wasn’t difficult to find my kind of people. I arrived at the Salt Lake City International Airport and quickly discovered free WiFi.

For not having an iPhone, but rather an iTouch, this has become a bit of a treasure hunt in order to access important networking applications, such as Grindr. While awaiting my shuttle to the hotel I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of locals that were plugged into Grindr, though I’m spoiled living in New York as the nearest guys are generally 100+ feet away when I’m working in Chelsea and in SL,UT they were a few miles between me and the nearest suitor. But what’s a few miles when they have a car and I have a hotel room, right? Guess what though, that’s not where this story is going…

Gay Life – The Paulinator – ShouldBee something special…

ShouldBee something special

ShouldBee something special

There are so many things I want to write about, it’s hard to pick one, but since they all seem to center on this new guy I’m seeing, so I’ll begin there. About two weeks ago, I attended this film festival in the city. For reason’s I’ll divulge later, I won’t give the specifics of the festival, but only that this is where I met ShouldBee, as in, he should be everything I’m looking for, right

Funny how life happens… One minute you’re innocently attending a film festival and the next, you are being hit on by one of the producers of the festival, and taken down to Pieces on Christopher Street.  ShouldBee and I had a really nice time that evening hanging out. It was more a group ‘date’ that was taking place the Saturday before the Pride parade. We ended up going for pizza following our night of dancing and ended up on West 23rd street, at ShouldBee‘s friend’s apartment, and where ShouldBee was staying until his sub-letter moved out of his own apartment.

As what happens when most gays get together after a night of drinking, we ended up in the living area of the apartment sitting around, watching YouTube clips of the fiercest singing on the Internet: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Patti Labelle. Obviously, since we weren’t in ShouldBee‘s home, we remained respectful of the situation and kept things PG… Well, maybe PG-13. Read more »

Gay Life – The Paulinator: California Gurls

Katy Perry

“Greetings loved ones, let’s take a journey,” Snoop Dogg says as he introduces Katy Perry’s summer anthem California Gurls. Well, having spent the past several weeks on the west coast, I can certainly attest that California Gurls are indeed hot enough to melt your popsicle… I was fortunate enough to be hanging out in Los Angeles during their Pride Celebration, and it was by far the most interesting pride experience I’ve ever had.

Gay Life – The Paulinator: Play Ball!

Taking a break from the Twitter world, I figured it was high time I went out and explored some of the new night life and to find some new hot spots. Living in New York for over eight years now, one would think I would have grown to love the Yankees, well don’t count on that happening anytime soon… You see for as long as I can remember I have been a huge Red Sox fan!

Gay Life – The Paulinator: Dr. TwitterCrush

I needed to take a small break from my pursuit of the Latin Lover because there was a new character entering the potential bedroom scenario and he goes by the name Dr. TwitterCrush. When I first came across him, he was everything I ever wanted in a male companion, smart, slightly geeky, muscular, a little older which means a little wiser and more worldly.  As the name implies, yes we initially met on Twitter (and I swear I didn’t create my account to meet men).  So when I first discovered him, we didn’t really tweet each other, I simply followed him because I thought he was cute.  Then one night I responded to him and we began talking .  I told him I had a twitter crush on him and surprisingly, he told him the feeling was mutual!

This was truly a match made in heaven –  one would think.

Sadly though it would never work out.

Gay Life – The Paulinator: Latin Lover, Part Deux

latin-lover1Twitter dates are really quite interesting. If this is solely your only means for communication, meaning you have no email address or phone number, you essentially have 140 characters to flirt back and forth and establish some sort of relationship. So when LA-Tweeter sent a tweet saying he would be in New York for work, I immediately thought, why not message him and see if he’d like to get a drink while he was in town! I wish I had more of a story to go along with LA-Tweeter except, I think, it’s fun he’s a reality show casting director for a really trashy program. He was nice, but clearly not my type at all. I am thankful to LA-Tweeter though because he brought my Latin Lover unintentionally back into my life. Read more »

Gay Life: The Paulinator – A New Season of Paulination

110-sunset-at-soggy-dollarWelcome back fellow bees to another season of The Paulinator’s guide to gay life and the city. This time around I’ll be focusing on hot spots that are perfect for romantic rendezvouses and giving you a little insight on how this bee is paulinating throughout the city, looking for love.

When last we met, The Paulinator was traveling far and wide to seek the attention of an Argentinian out on Long Island. Needless to say, the commute, his green card marriage and his no alcohol policy were three strikes against him. While the thought of an exotic boyfriend danced around in my mind, I needed to be realistic and go with my gut on this one. Was I heart broken? No, not so much, but I was sad that I was back to square one, that is until I decided to step up my game and make it my mission to seriously start dating more. Read more »
