Fringe NYC is coming back to town

The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) is the largest multi-arts festival in North America. It includes tons of companies from all over the world performing throughout the city in various venues. The show list is overwhelming but here are a couple shows that may be worth checking out.
The first play, Banshee of Bainbridge, comes from New York native, Jim Tierney, taking place in the Bronx. The play is set in 1985, a great year especially since I was born then. Mij Sullivan, the main character has just lost his mother to cancer and believes that it is his duty to restore his once all Irish neighborhood back to the way it used to be. Mij transforms himself into a warrior and begins his the battle of a lifetime. Written by Tierney and directed by Dianna Martin, the show utilizes minimal props and challenges the audience to use their imagination. It’s always great to support local talent so visit Robert Moss Theater, 400 Lafayette from August 13-27 to catch this show.
Tickets are $15 and you can make reservations at www.ticketweb.com or via www.fringenyc.org
Another show that looks extremely entertaining is Shine: A Burlesque Musical. I saw a video clip of it on You Tube and the cast and musical numbers are dynamic and seems like it would be a great theatrical experience. But its 18+ , so I wouldn’t plan it for a family outing. There are also shows that are selling out quickly so if are interested, make sure to purchase tickets asap. A Personal War: Stories of The Mumbia Terror Attacks has already sold out its opening night performance. This production was featured at the Edinburgh Festival and they had to turn away audiences there. Another show that’s sold out its opening is Hip Hop High: The Musical. It looks a bit off the block of High School Musical, you know the one from the Disney Channel featuring Zac Effron, but I promise it’s not. The Fringe arrives this weekend so please go out and take advantage of all the cultural goodness.
