Gay Life – The Paulinator: Latin Lover, Part Deux
Twitter dates are really quite interesting. If this is solely your only means for communication, meaning you have no email address or phone number, you essentially have 140 characters to flirt back and forth and establish some sort of relationship. So when LA-Tweeter sent a tweet saying he would be in New York for work, I immediately thought, why not message him and see if he’d like to get a drink while he was in town! I wish I had more of a story to go along with LA-Tweeter except, I think, it’s fun he’s a reality show casting director for a really trashy program. He was nice, but clearly not my type at all. I am thankful to LA-Tweeter though because he brought my Latin Lover unintentionally back into my life.
LA-Tweeter and I met up for drinks on a Wednesday night at Therapy. On Wednesday nights the bar has a show at 11:00pm called “Cattle Call” hosted by the stunning Peppermint. When I realized my Latin Lover frequents this bar, typically on Wednesday nights, I sent the drunken text, “are you at Therapy?” A few moments later I got the response I was looking for, “Yeah, are you?” And thus the beginning of my Latin pursuit began again. When last we saw each other there he was getting out of a long relationship and was not really interested in starting up another. I have always admired his honesty and policy on full disclosure.
While he has not been present in my life physically, he has been a welcomed source of entertainment in my Facebook and Twitter feeds. I’ve noticed he’s started dating more and even started to post about his recent Grindr adventures. (Sidebar: My Grindr adventures will be hashed out at a later date, fear not!) So, clearly Latin Lover is potentially looking for something a little more now and maybe, just maybe the timing is right for us now. Following our text message exchange at Therapy, I got a message that he had just left and was heading home, but I was more than welcomed to come over. This was precisely the message I wanted to receive, especially since I didn’t really want to ride the subway or Heaven-forbid, take a taxi back to the outer borough.
Within the year since we had last seen each other, Latin Lover moved from his Upper West Side studio, to a studio in Hell’s Kitchen, but sadly, I had not learned the address to his new home, so he oddly sent me his address in pieces. First the street, then the cross-street, followed by the building number and the actual apartment number. Within the time I received these messages and showed up to ring his bell, I stopped getting responses to my text messages. It was as if all communication between us had all of a sudden ceased to exist. Phone calls went directly to voice mail and text messages were not returned. It was an odd feeling to have been ‘stood up’ and so I left after waiting ten minutes or so for a response. Whatever the reason behind Latin Lover‘s disappearance, I wasn’t going to buy any excuse… no one stands up The Paulinator like that and gets a second chance… ok, unless you have a good reason and you’re sexy as sin…
The following day I received, what I believe to have been a sincere apology. Apparently he had passed out and didn’t hear the door buzzer. Regardless if it was true or not, he apologized and said he still wanted to see me. So, we decided another chance to recreate our initial rendezvous was in order.
Stay tuned, you won’t believe how that turned out!!
