Sunshine is heading our way

High Line

High Line

The weather has been  dreadful the last week but the weather report assures us that this weekend will bring us sunshine and warmth.  Think 76 degrees on Sunday!  In the meantime, here are some great events to check out in preparation for a sun-drenched weekend filled with picnics and outdoor drinking.

If you are suffering temporary seasonal depression like myself, maybe some comedy could brighten up your day.  On Wednesday at 7pm, UCB Theatre, is hosting the coffee table book release of “Look at This F*cking Hipster.”  The event will feature comedians such as Wyatt Cenac of The Daily Show, Reggie Watts, and more.

If you have to be indoors, you might as well be in a rock climbing gym and Urban Escapes, an event group in the city is putting together Boulder, Burger & Brews this Thursday, April 1st.    You can rock climb at the Manhattan Plaza Health Club under the supervision of certified instructors then chill out with some beer and burger after your workout.  For $59, it’s a pretty reasonable deal for climbing, an hour long lesson, and dinner.

Last but not least, go enjoy the outdoors and some art at the High Line in Chelsea.  Brooklyn-based artist Spencer Finch’s project, The River That Flows Both Way’s is up for display.  If you haven’t checked out the High Line yet, you really should.  This retro New York City park, built upon on a section of the former elevated freight railroad on the West Side is a great place to people watch and lounge on a lazy Saturday.
