Gay Life – The Paulinator: Missed Connection Whore

With the temperature rising in the Big Apple, I like to think that it also leads to most people’s attractiveness rising as well. I left my office last Friday to go for an afternoon stroll and to see everyone looking fierce and cute in the neighborhood was simply delightful. It was a welcome change from the bundled up messes that most people become during the bitter winter months.

Friday night I decided to head out and meet up with some friends in lower Manhattan. I hardly ever venture down in that area anymore so it was good to revisit some of old stomping grounds. On my way, looking fabulous in a blazer, striped shirt, jeans and flip flops, I noticed a guy standing on the platform waiting for the subway. We immediately caught each others gaze and he entered the car I was standing in. He took a seat across the way from me and stared a little more than normal at me. We would catch each others glances every so often and, to be blunt, was kind of arousing.

I didn’t particularly find him that attractive, but the idea that he thought I was attractive enough to stare at definitely excited me! After two stops, he exited the train, but not before purposefully tapping me with his elbow on his way out and giving me a wink. And just as quick as he came into my life, he was gone. No name, no number, no Facebook exchange.

I met up with my friends and at one point I shared with them the story of this guy from the subway. Sure enough they eagerly encouraged me to put a missed connection up on craigslist in the hopes of reconnecting with him. The problem is, I couldn’t really recall what he looked like and if it would be worth it. What harm could it do to at least put one up?

So I told the story of the stranger on the subway who tapped me with his elbow and gave me a wink goodbye. I asked two questions, where did he get off and what was I wearing. I thought it better to ask what I was wearing because honestly I had no recollection of his outfit. Two days passed and I received two e-mails. The first from some crazy guy who thought I sounded interesting and wanted to know if we could C2C (cam 2 cam). The second and more fruitful response was indeed from my Sir Winks-A-Lot. My second missed connection fulfilled!

Now we’re in the getting to know you phase of the game. However, in this quest I like to speed it along sometimes and do a Google search. It is the 21st century and pretty much anything about anyone is available online. I almost base someone’s crazy factor on how limited information is to come by searching online. Well, Sir Winks-A-Lot‘s initial e-mail was only signed with his first initial — not helpful, and neither was the email address. Frustrating to me because I couldn’t get a good picture of him in my mind and had hoped he was on Facebook. After a few e-mails I finally got a name and age! With that information I was off to the races. I did a profile search on Facebook and sure enough came up with his profile. TRAGEDY!! I remember I was not immediately head over heals with his looks at first glance and going through his public pictures on Facebook I started to remember why.

I think I’ve come to the conclusion Sir Winks-A-Lot and I would probably make better friends than lovers.
