New York City Music Scene – The Sweet Beat: Hipster’s Paradise

Are you tired of the same five songs playing on your radio? Are you looking for something original and possibly your new favorite band? If that’s the case, I have the place for you. The Cake Shop is the ultimate hot spot for Indie music and is definitely one of the places you need to be on the weekend. Located at 152 Ludlow Street, this little shop is not only a place to check out live music, it’s also a cafe!

Think about it… where else could you enjoy a sinfully delicious slice of cake as you listen to live music? Despite the cold weather over the weekend, I made my way to the Cake Shop and did exactly just that. While enjoying my slice of chocolate cake, I was introduced to four bands: Hopewell, Bear In Heaven, Artanker Convoy, and Tulipss.

As I mentioned before, I have an infatuation with unique sounds and needless to say the night was full of them. Once the showcase came to a close, I went home thinking how tremendously different each band was. But that’s the beauty of Indie music. Bands are placed in the Indie genre because they’re experimental and daring, but at the same time how experimental each band is varies! So if you’re looking for a night filled with out of the ordinary music, delicious treats, and a trendy atmosphere, the Cake Shop will scratch that itch.
