Q: My boyfriend’s addiction to fantasy football has led to less sex and even more fights. We met in the “off-season” so I had no idea this was coming. I don’t get this stuff at all. How do I get my boyfriend, who is in five of these stupid leagues, back?
Sincerely,
Fantasy Widow

Several months back I made the conscious effort to stop denying my sexual orientation and admit to myself and to the world around me that I am gay! This whole process has opened my eyes to the city in such an interested and excited way; it is a whole new chapter in my life!
And that is what this column will be about, that new chapter! So hello, my name is Paul and you can think of me your gay BFF! I’m going to give you the scoop on what is happening in the gay scene these days and do my best to share with you stories about gay life in the city, taking you from my discreet Manhunt hookups, gay outings to bars and clubs and potentially finding my first relationship.
Don’t worry though, I’ll be protecting the innocent and even those not so innocent, but all in all, this column will hopefully inspire you to live your life proudly in the city that will always love you!

Back after weeks in Nowhereland, USA, and the B.S.O.Q. is thrilled to be back in your brains, your hearts and your computers. Let me start by saying thank you to all my lovers and supporters. This guy in the back of the room knows what I’m talkin’ about! Hey Bob, keep on truckin’, I LOVE YOU MAN !
On a serious note, I was gone for a while dealing with some family stuff. It was a very enlightening experience. When you live in the old NYC, sometimes you think you’re life is so busy that you don’t have time to make a phone call once or twice a week. You think that your life of social calendars and house-warming parties and running for trains is more important than REAL LIFE and RELATIONSHIPS (at least more pressing), and all things outside of the 5 boroughs can wait.
But when something happens, and you find out you might be losing someone you love. Then you’re not so sure anymore. Everything stops.

To have lived in Miami for about three and a half years, there are still quite a few types of Latin American cuisines I have somehow never sampled – Venezuelan being one.
I walk by Caracas Arepa Bar frequently and typically find the restaurant packed with patrons, overflowing to those waiting on the sidewalk in front. Their specialty are arepas, which are sandwiches of a flat cornmeal patty where the cornmeal can be grilled, baked, or fried. These tasty treats are even wheat-free.

Want an indie alternative to fashion week? With local indie designers? And proceeds going to animals? With music on the side? This looks like the event to BEE.

I’ve been a big fan of nogoodforme it seems like forever and it looks like this soiree won’t disappoint. The fashion lounge will feature local boutiques. So drop by, grab a cocktail, enter a few raffles, and if you’re overloaded with fashion goodness, head downstairs and listen to some music.

Q: I think my girlfriend is cheating on me. How do I know for sure?
A: Ah, trust. The backbone of any successful relationship and nemesis of used car salesmen everywhere. Like bipartisanship, trust can be very hard to build. Every brick of foundation can be swept away with an ill-timed roll of the eyes or misinterpreted coffee order (I was once accused of sleeping with a barista after I dropped my change into her tip jar…and no, that’s not innuendo).

If i had a food mantra for my attitude towards food in the city, it would be “will travel for good food.” I’d read about Peaches Market long before its arrival in Bedford-Stuyvesant. I’m not sure how it took me this long to make it out there. Catch the A to Brooklyn and then get off at Utica Avenue. Great food is just a short walk away from there. Read more »

Q: My parents recently hosted some Israeli relatives in the city. Whenever I saw them (dinner, bar, park) one of my cousins, this girl I had never met, laid it on pretty thick. She was unbelievably cute, but there was no way I was going to hook up with a family member. I told my buddy she was my third cousin once removed and he said I was an idiot for not sleeping with her. Genealogically speaking, is it dangerous to hook up with a third cousin?
A: Truly, what’s the fuss in hooking up with a cousin? Let’s ask the New York Times from April 4, 2002:
Contrary to widely held beliefs and longstanding taboos in America, first cousins can have children together without a great risk of birth defects or genetic disease, scientists are reporting today. They say there is no biological reason to discourage cousins from marrying….”In some parts of the world,” the report says, ”20 to 60 percent of all marriages are between close biological relatives.”
